I wanted to create a window display that would feel as whimsical and inviting as the experiences we offer in-store. The idea of the Catisserie was born: a cozy bakery world starring our shop cat, Dave, as the “Pie of the Day” (flavor: Cutie Pie, obviously).
I led the project from concept to execution. I began by sketching multiple layouts, refining the design until the scene balanced playfulness and charm. I then collaborated with a team and DIY’ed several elements, created all signage, and brought the display to life. The mix of handmade textures, bright colors, and imaginative storytelling made the window feel lively and memorable. The bottom half of the display acted as Dave’s bakery, complete with tiny details like a printed receipt for baking ingredients and a signed selfie with Paul Hollywood (definitely happened) to bring the story to life.
The display had an immediate impact. Customers frequently stopped to admire it, take photos, and tell us how much they loved it. Its colorful, approachable aesthetic also drew new visitors into the store (some thinking we sole croissants. And to those people, I apologize for making the display too realistic). Even Dave—our store co-owner—declared it his favorite window yet, which was a bonus.
The project was recognized with “Best Window Display in LFK,” but the greatest reward was seeing the joy it brought to our community. It was a perfect example of how illustration, design, and playful world-building can create an experience that connects with people in a meaningful way.
